Enjoy a morning of community fellowship and "nourishment for your body and your soul". Celebrate the richness of Macedonia's history featuring a dramatic reading of  19th-century poet, writer, poet, and social reformer Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. Witness this performance in a sanctuary that once served as a vital stop on the Underground Railroad, where heroes like Thomas Clement Oliver who worked as stationmasters to lead others to freedom and Alexander Herritage Newton, another prominent abolitionist who pastored there.


Macedonia AME Church is a State and National Historic Landmark and newly listed on the NJ Black Heritage Trail. Founded in 1832, Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church was Camden’s first, and oldest, African American institution. It was established in Fettersville, Camden’s first urban neighborhood. It remains on the same site on which it was founded making it the oldest parcel of real estate continuously owned by African Americans in the City. Hear…
