Celebrate Black History Month and beyond as Preservationist Dolly Marshall discusses the importance of restoring African American cemeteries and lost history.

Dolly Marshall, a historical preservation activist, recalls spending much of her childhood between the city she was raised in, Camden, and the borough she grew to love over many summers in Lawnside. “I grew up in Camden City, but before I was born my parents purchased a home in Lawnside. So by the time I came along we were going back and forth and spending the summers in Lawnside. Lawnside has always been a part of my youth and upbringing,” said Marshall. “ On trips coming from Camden down the main thoroughfare, White Horse Pike, the Marshall family would often pass by Mount Peace Cemetery. Back then, it was around the early 1980’s, but even as a child Marshall began to take notice of the cemetery falling on hard times.
