August 28: A Day in the Life of a People

Dear Community Members and Kindred Spirits of History, It is with deep reverence and a sense of shared purpose that we invite you to pause and reflect with us. At the Mount Peace Cemetery, we understand that history is not merely a collection of dates, but a living tapestry of stories that bind us to our ancestors and to each other. On August 28, 2026, we are honored to virtually present a special screening of August 28: A Day in the Life of a People, a profound film created by the visionary Ava DuVernay. The link to the film will only be available for 24 hours.

A Commemorative Perspective
Originally commissioned by the NMAAHC, this film captures pivotal moments in Black history that share a common date. By gathering to watch, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the museum and honor the resilience of those who came before us.
